Souper Bowl of Caring

Souper Bowl of Caring

The Souper Bowl of Caring was started in 1990 by a Presbyterian seminary intern from South Carolina. Those humble beginnings with a group of students launched a movement to "tackle hunger," spreading across The United States.

The guidelines are simple: collect soup cans or food donations for a local charity of your choice. Groups often "compete" with one another to inspire larger collections from their organizations. Today, groups outside of churches also participate in creative ways by hosting food drives, collecting soup, and donating cash in honor of local food pantries.

San Pedro is collecting soup cans throughout the month of January, celebrating our final collections on Sunday, February 8th (the day of the other "Super Bowl"). 100 percent of San Pedro's collections will go to House of Neighborly Service.
